SERDANG, December 19, 2019 - Centre for Academic Development (CADe), Universiti Putra Malaysia has organized SULAM-UPM Training for Trainers (TOT), an acronym for Service Learning Malaysia. SULAM, a learning approach that combines three key components, namely academic, community engagement and student practical experience, is implemented through credit courses that engage students with the community over a significant period of time. In line with the aspiration of the Ministry of Education Malaysia which emphasizes the functioning of universities for the community, UPM established the SULAM-UPM Working Committee aimed at facilitating the implementation of SULAM in UPM.

The workshop aims to provide training to SULAM-UPM committee members as Faculty representatives who guide the lecturers in implementing the SULAM project. The workshop held at the CADe Meeting Room was preceded by a briefing on SULAM concepts and approaches by Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Zariat Abdul Rani, Deputy Director of CADe, also Coordinator of SULAM-UPM. The workshop also included the sharing of five projects by UPM lecturers, which is "Development of Service-Learning Model in TVET-Based Program" by Dr. Mohd Khaizer Omar from the Faculty of Educational Studies, “Pembangunan Kelab Inovasi Sekolah Luar Bandar - SMK Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh” by Associate Professor Dr. Amir Syahir Amir Hamzah, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, “Teratak dan Balai Desa Semai” by Dr. Wan Srihani Wan Mohamed from the Faculty of Design and Architecture, “AMBER - Agriculture Moves Beyond Extraordinary” by Dr. Juju Nakasha Jaafar, Faculty of Agriculture and “Bengkel Pengurusan Kesihatan Ikan Siakap: Satu Langkah Meningkatkan Sosioekonomi Komuniti Desa Lestari Kg. Bandar” by Dr. Norhariani Mohd Nor from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This workshop is expected to enhance the implementation of SULAM in UPM.
