Event Summary
Academics in universities are expected to excel in teaching, research and professional services. Even with the flexible KPI and alternative career tracks, these three basic functions of the academic at the university will be evaluated yearly and during the promotion exercise. In UPM, new academic staffs are assigned mentors to guide and steer them in their academic career. Academic mentoring in all the three basic functions is crucial for effective performance of young academics, especially at a research university such as UPM. It will also help reduce the lag period for KPI compliance and promotion in their journey towards excellence, scholarship and impact. This course on Academic Mentoring is designed as an overview for effective academic coaching and mentoring for young and new academics at UPM. A few best practices on a win-win academic mentoring will be discussed using the student-centred learning approach. At the end of the course, participants will understand how academic mentoring works and be able to perform and benefit as team members to fast-tract their career path and promotion throughout their academic journey.
